Your backdoor SPSA update

Following up on yesterday’s post, David Bernstein of the Volokh Conspiracy reports:

The head of the New Orleans convention bureau told NPR today that he is canceling all conventions scheduled to be held in New Orleans through March 2006.

The CVB site claims that this cancellation only applies to large conventions or those using the convention center space, but realistically if the Crescent City won’t be in good enough condition to host a large convention in April it probably won’t in good enough condition for any convention in January.

I was thinking about this againn this morning, and SPSA is making a big mistake not making a decision like yesterday. I was involved in two panels, and one of them has already been cancelled because the folks involved (mostly coming from the Northeast) have decided that travel plans were too uncertain to plan on attending.

People will start to drop out soon and if they aren’t careful, the SPSA 2006 will be big enough to be held in the McDonalds in the Wal*Mart on the Atlanta Highway in Montgomery.

Well, at least that would be cheaper than trekking to New Orleans…
