Another day, another article

Read about the new south. I don’t think this one is as good as the busing article, but I can’t think of much I could do to improve it either. Next up: George Wallace (not the comedian).

I’ll give this a thorough read a little later. A quick perusal of Tom Hanchett’s “Sorting Out the New South City: Race, Class, and Urban Development in Charlotte, 1875–1975” might help.

While much is obviously “Charlotte focused,” there is a lot that is generalizable about the changing South. I require the first three chapters in my Southern Politics class (and we also take a field trip to the Levine Museum of the New South, which Tom runs: http://www.museumofthenewsouth.org/)

Didn’t you/we go there on one of your visits?

You really can’t write about Atlanta without mentioning the word “traffic,” you know. Preferably in all caps. With a prefix of “damn-.”

Congrats on the Texas A&M job.

Scott: Yep, I went when I was in town for the Teaching and Learning Conference in 2007.

Kalynne: Thanks!
