Somehow a conference call for an interview today turned into a series of conversations involving me, the relevant search committee, and my voicemail. Hopefully I was at least somewhat coherent during the interview, after being interrupted by busy signals, voice prompts, and “off hook” tones, but I wouldn’t wager a lot of money on that.
I suppose it could have been worse; I could have ended up having a conversation with two search committees simultaneously. Clearly that would violate some fundamental physical law of the universe, or, at the very least, certain provisions of the UN Declaration of Human Rights relating to cruel and inhumane treatment.

cruel and inhumane for them or you? :)
Hope you like your offer once it arrives.
Two phone interviews at once does sound inhumane..
Try not to stress too much while waiting for the written offer (easier said than done). It amazed me how long it took a few schools to send a written offer (while others had a very streamlined process and the offer came within a week). They are probably sending it around right now to get all the proper signatures (dean, vice-provost, provost, etc.). The slowness of the process is a reason my advisor told me to go ahead w/negotiations with the chair/dean so that the new salary and other items would be reflected in the contract they sent (I had others on the table that were going to expire so I wanted to make sure everything was in order).
For the morbidly curious, I got an email copy of the offer letter today; allegedly the paper copy arrives via FedEx tomorrow.
Congratulations, Chris!
That’s great to hear. I hope the offer is viable for you.
