Congrats! If you accept the job, I hope it’s one in a nice climate with nice potential and nice looking co-eds. Apparently, I’m quite fond of the word “nice” today.
Thanks, all; the only real downsides to it are that it is Yet Another One-Year (ugh) and it’s not really a liberal arts college, although I’d have 59 students total per semester and it’s a undergrad-only department. Oh, and being The Internal Candidate again (in fairness, I’d probably be in the same boat at the other 1–2 places I have a good shot at going).
The pluses: it’s a 3–3 load, with 0–2 new preps total depending on my mood—I could teach two sections of methods and an intro, or vice versa, each semester if I wanted, although I’ll probably end up teaching parties & interest groups and a voting behavior class to beef up the teaching experience on my vita—and two days/week in the classroom, which means I will have plenty useable research time; the money, while not Duke money, is liveable (I’ll just stop putting as much money away in my TIAA-CREF account); geographically, it’s in an urban area with a relatively low cost-of-living; people have actually heard of the place and don’t have negative visceral reactions to it, so it will look fine on the vita for next year’s search.
We shall see what else shakes loose in the week to come, but if I don’t have another offer by the end of the week I’ll definitely take this one.
I’m a few days late and a few dollars short, as usual. Congrats!
Congrats on the job!
