Orgeron loads up with Ex-U staff

Former Miami offensive coordinator Dan Werner is now OC for the Ole Miss Rebels, with fellow ex-Miamian Art Kehoe likely to follow as the new offensive line coach in Oxford. The Rebels will also have Robert Lane back in the backfield, likely back at quarterback (even though Lane’s performance at fullback was one of the few bright spots on offense in the latter half of the season).

I think if we don’t get Schaeffer, Lane will be the #1 heading into spring, but even if we don’t, Lane isn’t the answer at QB. Basically, if Lane wants to ever entertain thoughts of playing in the NFL, he needs to stay as far away from the QB position as possible. Comparing him to Matt Jones is easy. There are two differences. One, Lane MIGHT be a better overall athlete (not sure, but possible). Two, Lane could have the benefit of 2+ years of FB/TE work before all is said and done. Jones had a couple months of workouts at WR before becoming a first round pick.

Patrick Willis is staying. That may be the only bright spot fo the team next year. This is the question which should be asked by someone somewhere:
Why did it take us over 2 months (Mazzone was really fired before the LSU game) to hire an offensive coordinator?
Word on the street is very few people wanted to take a risk on a one year stay in Oxford if Orgeron gets canned next year . . .
