My generally-nonexistent social life had a brief blip Thursday night: Kelly and I saw Hedwig and the Angry Inch at Hal and Mal’s (muy excellente), and followed up by meeting Kamilla and Andy at George Street where a couple of acts were playing and a fair share of the Millsaps political science majors were partying. Fun and merriment were had by all, I do believe.
No doubt frequent commenter Scott will chime in to provide his review of George Street. For my part, I thought it was a pretty nice place, though the $5 Bass on tap seemed a tad steep (maybe I'm too fond of Oxford prices).

Hmmm…why does the imagined tone when you write “frequent commenter” ring in my head as if you said “diseased asshat?”
…but since you asked….obviously it has been nearly a decade since I was there, but I remember two things: the beer and the soup.
Beer: great selection
Soup: homemade and delicious
I didn’t know “asshat” was in your vocabulary… you’ve become more well-rounded in your aging!
I just remember you telling me that GSG was your favorite bar in the universe or something. Of course, last night was the first time I’d set foot in the place (but I agree, it’s nice).
No…it was my favorite place in Jackson…of course, I haven’t been to THAT many places in Jackson.
Favorite in universe…hmmm…
Well the City Grocery in Oxford is up there…it could have changed though
The other is a bar called The Sevens on Beacon Hill in Boston. Christ, I love that place.
Never set foot in Boston… Dad did the drive around 128 on the way from Maine to Newport, Rhode Island back in 1991. Always kinda wanted to visit though.
