Love House. Don’t watch UPN. Think the new Battlestar Galactica takes the show and takes everything that was fun about the original out while keeping everything that was bad. Don’t like it at all.

Tivo Lost. The best new show on TV, IMO.

Watch for Bell in the remake of “Reefer Madness.” I saw a clip of her in dominatrix leather and hubba-hubba!

House is fun because Laurie is so spectacular, but it won’t last. It’s the British model of an unlikeable and unpleasant central character dominating a sympathetic supporting cast. It works for class-conscious Britain, but has been Americanised in House. It only works because Laurie is so incredibly good. I doubt scripts can sustain this long enough.

Have you seen Lost? Great show with several powerful episodes already.

Re: Lost. Yeah, I’ve heard good things about it, I just don’t know if I can add yet another new show to the mix, especially with 4 shows on Friday now (both Stargates, Enterprise, and Galactica). Gotta get work done sometime.

For what it’s worth, I think the original Galactica worked for its time (excluding, of course, the god-awful Galactica 1980 and a few of the early “planet of the week” episodes), but 25 years of new science fiction has made much of it cringe-worthy (“The Cylons just carried out a genocide against our people… let’s go gambling!” “Let’s stay on this desolate planet rather than join the fleet, even though there’s only one family so our population will die out in 30 years or the next generation will have four heads because of inbreeding!”).

It still works as camp, but not as an exploration of the human condition, largely because it’s all black and white—Adama and Apollo are always right (and Starbuck is too, except when it comes to women), Baltar and the Council are always wrong (and usually complete dupes too). Cain is the only grey character of note (which is probably why The Living Legend is most peoples’ favorite).
