Google Scholar debuts

Google has unveiled a new toy of interest to academics: a search engine that exclusively tracks scholarly articles. It’s not perfect, and it may not quite put the print journals out of business, but I suspect it’s another nail in their coffins (þ: Ars Technica).

I have a feeling that journals, as well as books, will be around for a while. There’s nothing like the feel of holding and reading a book.

Just the same, I suspect Google will be successful. They are persistent and have very long beta periods—they’re still working bugs out of News and it is still technically in beta.
