Well, I don’t think I made a fool of myself or the university in my brief via-webcam appearance on CNN’s “On the Story” this weekend; it was actually rather fun, but a little nerve-wracking at the same time. There were a few hiccups with the audio on the iSight they sent me—probably some QoS issues on the upstream link from the Mac mini—and it was a bit weird not being able to see anyone I was talking to, but otherwise it seemed to go well.
Incidentally, the reporter/producer I talked to on the air, Abbi Tatton, was very nice and something of a fan of the Monster Raving Loony Party growing up.
I doubt I’ll be going into podcasting or vidcasting on a regular basis, but it was still somewhat neat to be able to broadcast nationwide (worldwide?) from my living room.

Did you get a free Isight out of it, or do you have to send it back???
Did you tivo for the family?
No, I had to send it back… actually, they sent it in this reinforced plastic case that looked like it was designed to ship weapons, but actually had a Mac Mini (probably a PowerPC one, but I didn’t actually plug it in and check) and all sorts of cables and gizmos, including a light that didn’t work at all. I just hooked up the iSight to my Mini and used it that way, with the light as a counterbalance on the camera (it kept trying to fall over). For what it probably cost to ship the whole kit to and from here via FedEx, maybe they should have just had me go down to the Apple Store and buy an iSight.
I do have it TiVoed and I’ve burned a few DVDs for family members—I’ll need to get a final count of who wants what.
Just wanted to say I thought you did a good job with the interview. I was in my car listening to CNN while traversing the state of FL when I heard the reporter (Abbi apparently) announce your name. I thought to myself, “Hey, that’s the guy who’s blog I commented on last week!” I listened intently to the whole thing and I’m disappointed that only 50% of the audience thought that the media coverage of the trial is unfair.
I remember the audio getting very screwed up on some of your answers, but it didn’t seem to phase the reporter or the audience.
I remember the reporter saying things like, “Your blog…” but I don’t remember any mention of the title, “Signifying Nothing” which was rather rude of them, IMHO. Regardless, it was kind of neat to hear you speak on CNN. When I came to this blog to post I had no idea who you were, only that you linked to my blog =)
