They’re awful, and I can’t imagine they’re much better for the interviewing department.
Funny thing is, there’s the occasional one that goes OK and you wonder why they can’t all go like that. There also doesn’t seem to be much of a correlation between how well the interview goes and prospects for the job—of my recent phone interviews, I think the one that went best by far is for the job I have the least shot (by far) at getting.
Do you despise them more than having no interviews? :)

They’re a nice reminder of how our supposedly egalitarian betters really have no problem treating us like slaves.
I can’t stand phone interviews. They’re such a waste of time.
