Less lacrosse, more fulfilling

I’ve been avoiding writing about the Duke lacrosse thing for a few days, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t link this post from KC Johnson commenting on Jason Whitlock’s latest Kansas City Star column on the situation.

Also, as the Bull City Booster pointed out in comments to an earlier post, today’s News & Observer Q section was all lacrosse, all the time—the section editor asked me to write something about the online coverage of the case for the section, but the deadline was right in the middle of finals week.

This whole situation is the creation of a black woman (XXX) with a history of making false accusations of rape and kidnapping (1996 & 1998) with serious character and integrity flaws (larceny, auto theft, attampted murder 2002) and the unethical media hungry District Attorney (Mike Nifong).

Ms. XXX’s story of events don’t match the evidence. In fact the total and complete lack of evidence reveals that a crime never occurred. Nifong states that Ms. XXX is 100% sure of the two boys, with the air-tight alibies, she “eeny meeny miney moed” in the DA’s manipulated photo line-up, but her father stated that she told him that she wasn’t sure. Ms. XXX’s ex-husband states that he believes her 100%, but she made a false accusation that he kidnapped her in 1998.

Everyone seems to be concerned with the stripper, but what about all the innocent boys she destroyed with her lies? Will Mifong hold her responsible for these false accusations?

There was big news released today about Durham police initially quetsioning the AV’s credibility. She initially said that 20 guys raped her. This report also states that players were lulled into a false sense that the case would blow over. Nifong really had it in for these players as more evidence is released. He may not only be incompetent, but downright malicious.

I really hope that Finnerty’s dad uses his warchest to bring down Nifong and have him disbarred.

“After the victim of the alleged assaults was taken to the Emergency Room of the Duke Hospital in the early morning hours of March 14, after earlier told Durham Police that she was raped and sexually assaulted by approximately 20 white members of a Duke team (a charge later modified to allege an attack by three individuals in a bathroom), the official report of the Duke Police Department was submitted and reviewed by the Duke Police Director, Robert Dean, at 7:30 a.m. on March 14.”

Possibly the worst written sentence to be submitted in a widely read report. My seventh grade English teacher’s head would explode upon reading this.

The authors did not review police reports and did not interview the Durham police. Duke police director lamely tries to cover his butt and gets the scapegoat treatment by the administration.

I have to applaud Whitlock’s piece and his drive toward the high ground…my regret is that we all had to muck about to get there. I’m still reeling over the fact the Nifong is now the DA—it teaches us that he made a good call creating this mess that thought leaders like Whitlock have to clean up, all for his political gain. His next stop probably will be in the limelight of another polarizing situation that he creates at the expense of the moral high ground.

azb—that link ain’t there no more?!
