NBC 17 timeline

NBC 17 reported the following timeline beginning with the second 911 call on the 7 pm edition of its local news:

  • 1:22: Second 911 call from Kroger security guard.
  • 1:27: First officer arrives; his dispatch traffic (beginning around 1:30) is what we’ve heard before.
  • 1:32: Second officer arrives.
  • 1:49: Second officer decides to transport accuser to psychiatric facility on North Duke Street, instead of the “drunk tank” as the first officer was planning to do.
  • 1:55: Accuser arrives at psych facility.
  • 2:39: Accuser is transported from psych facility to Duke University Hospital ER.
  • 2:45: Accuser arrives at ER.
  • 2:50: Initial report of intoxicated person changed to rape.

NBC 17 also reported that the sealed indictments were requested by both Nifong and defense attorneys, albeit for different reasons. It is implied that there will be a prosecution press conference sometime tomorrow.

Two words: date rape drug. Ok, three words, but you get the point: I suspect she was slipped a mickey. My basis: sheer, uninformed speculation. We’ll see if DUMC did a toxicology screen… it would figure if they didn’t, based on other instances of the “fine” med. work done at Duke (hydraulic fluid, anyone?)....

I’m just real suspicious about the 30 minute time gap in which the alleged victim was in the bathroom…. doing her nails???? Sure, that makes perfect sense.

Next question: will Brodhead do the smart thing and suspend the indicted players? I mean, this is a class B felony we’re talking here… a bit more serious than plagiarism or the other nonsense allegations that form the basis for typical suspensions of undergrads…..

Seized item # 28 on the 610 N. Buchanan search warrant: “pills.”

If this was facilitated by a rape drug…. and that’s a big IF…. surely the other lacrosse players must have known….. kind of lends a sinister angle to the pictures taken of the falling-down dancer with bruises, and really makes the skinning strippers email all the more horrific. Also, if this turns out to be what happened, Alleva might want to amend his laudatory comments from the initial press conference regarding the players, and then start getting his resume in order—I can’t see how his continued presence at Duke is in the best interests of the institution, frankly. Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out, pal…

NBC17 also was the only outlet to report on Friday that the date-rape drug possibility is being actively investigated: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12331409/

I’d imagine that Brodhead (or Trask or whatever underling is supposed to do these things) will suspend the indicted players, if they are indicted for rape or assault… but that’s going to be hard for him to do until this warrant is unsealed.

Chris,

True, but here’s a simple solution:

March all of the players into the Pres’ office one by one. Tell them that if they are the players charged they need to 1) be subject to academic suspension if they fess up or refuse to answer the question or 2) face immediate expulsion if later it is found you were charged and denied it. Also, threaten to give the program a death sentence immediately and suspend scholarships.

I would question the common sense of any parent of one of those charged who would allow their child to remain in school, let alone the town. Then again, there hasn’t been a lot of common sense shown on the side of the players thus far.

I’m just curious what possible purpose that would serve, since this will all be public by this time tomorrow anyway. I think Brodhead has better things to do than interrogating players anyway…
