Is there a political methodologist in the house?

I’ve seen this poll in a number of places, but Volokh conspirator Orin Kerr is the first I’ve seen that really dissects the results. Do 44% of Americans really want to curtail the civil liberties of Muslims in America? It doesn’t sound like it.

To paraphrase a former president, it depends on what you mean by “curtailing civil liberties.” ☺

Or, to paraphrase my PLSC 3220 course for which I’ve been fighting with the syllabus all night, “all public opinion is crap.” Which isn’t strictly speaking true, but is pretty close.

Strictly speaking, I’m not sure how they reached the 44% number. The numbers really don’t add up for me. Of course, I never did get through prob & stats…
